Plugins

Emby Plugin#

A native subtitle provider for Emby Server. It appears under Settings, Library, Subtitle downloaders and in the Search for subtitles dialog of a movie or episode.

Built and unit tested, but not run on a real Emby server. It shares its code with the Jellyfin plugin, which was. Check it on your server before relying on it.

Before you start#

You need Emby Server 4.9.1 and a free Wyzie API key from store.wyzie.io/redeem.

Install#

  1. Emby has no plugin catalog we can add to, so the install is manual. Download the plugin zip.
  2. Unzip it (one DLL) into the Emby plugins folder and restart Emby Server.

Set up#

  1. Settings, Plugins, Wyzie Subs: paste your key and save.
  2. Enable Wyzie Subs under the library's Subtitle downloaders.

What it does#

  • Movies and episodes. Episodes are looked up by the show's id plus season and episode. The plugin sends the video's file name and, for local files, its OpenSubtitles hash, so the best match for your exact file ranks first. Both can be switched off on the plugin page.
  • One manual search or one automatic fetch costs 1 search request per language plus 1 download of the subtitle that is picked. AI translated rows are never offered, because each costs 25 requests. The plugin never retries.
  • After a 402, a 429, a held key or an invalid key, the plugin stops calling Wyzie for a while (30 minutes, until the reset time, 15 minutes and 10 minutes) and returns no results, so a library scan cannot burn requests on a dead key. Changing the key clears the pause.

Troubleshooting#

  • Wyzie is not in the list. Check that it is enabled under the library's Subtitle downloaders and that the server was restarted after the install.
  • Empty results. Check the key on the plugin page and in the dashboard. With a bad key the list is empty and the server log shows one warning.
